Our Use of Styrofoam
Trust us, we hate using Styrofoam. The simple truth is that summer temperatures, wine, and shipping don’t mix, and putting an ice pack in a Styrofoam shipper is the safest way for us to get your wine to you without heat damage. We take our responsibility to preserve the integrity of your wine very seriously, which is why we opt to use this method while temperatures are high. We are not content, however, with the current state of summer-safe wine shipping materials, so we invite you to read on to learn more about what we’re doing about it, and other options you have from us in the meantime.
What We’re Doing About It
We’ve challenged our packaging vendors to produce an ice pack-safe, recyclable pulp paper shipping option. This pulp innovation will enable us to insert an ice pack without disrupting the integrity of the packaging, or the safety of your wine, while in transit. This more sustainable option is currently available for orders of 6 to 12 bottles, and we hope to expand to all order sizes by next summer (making this the last year we’d need to rely on Styrofoam inserts).
Other Options in the Meantime
If you're looking for other ways to lessen the environmental impact of your wine shipments with us, our Build a Case program allows you to consolidate your orders over time, so that only shipments of 12 bottles are sent at once. You can learn more or subscribe at www.sommselect.com/build-a-case
We also encourage our customers to find local recycling centers that accept Styrofoam (resources can be found at www.recyclefoam.org/about-foam-recycling).
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at email@example.com with any questions or ways we can enhance your experience. Thank you for your business.
